Other regulators
This section of our website explains how the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland and other organisations have agreed to work together:
Charity regulators
The UK and Ireland Regulators Forum provides charity regulators and tax authorities in the UK and Ireland with a forum to discuss policy and operational matters at a strategic level.
The first forum was held in October 2006 in Belfast, Northern Ireland, with regulator meetings held in locations across the UK and Ireland since then.
Membership of the forum includes:
• The Charity Commission for England and Wales (CCEW)
• The Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR)
• The Charity Commission for Northern Ireland
• The Charities Regulatory Authority, Ireland.
• His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC)
• Revenue Ireland
As each regulator is at a different level of their development, the forum is a vital resource for members to share their experiences and learning within their own legislative framework
Minutes from meetings of the UK and Ireland Charity Regulators Forum are available below.
Relationships with other organisations
Effective and credible joined up working with other regulators, law enforcement agencies and government departments is essential to detecting, deterring and preventing abuse from taking place in charities, as well as rectifying problems when they arise.
The Commission aims to build and strengthen our strategic and operational relationships with a number of agencies by putting in place formal protocols, Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) or operational arrangements. These will set out clearly what our respective roles are and how we will work together, while protecting our independence.
