Under section 17(3) of the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008, a registered charity is obliged to inform the Commission when it ceases to exist or if there is any change in its details on the register of charities.
Notification of closure is therefore compulsory for a registered charity. This form provides the means for your charity to notify the Commission of closure and have the register of charities updated to reflect the changes in your charity’s status. This will ensure the register is kept up-to-date and the public are made aware of the changes.
Further information can be found in our Closures and mergers guidance. Please read this guidance before completing the form.
Please note the following:
- Particular care should be taken where a charity holds a permanent endowment. Further information is available in the Commission's Closures and mergers guidance.
- Should you require a scheme or consent to amend your governing document before closing, or before transferring assets, please refer to the specific guidance under the Manage your charity section of our website.
