Charity proceedings – a guide for charity trustees

Charity trustees have a duty to act in the best interest of the charity by protecting the charity’s assets and using the charity’s funds in line with its purposes. When making a decision to take or defend legal action in the Courts there are a number of things charity trustees must consider.

This guidance explains what charity trustees need to consider when taking or defending legal action, what they are, who can bring proceedings and when the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland needs to be involved.
