“What are the direct benefits flowing from your organisation's purposes? 1.The support of children with Down syndrome and their families. The direct benefits which flow from the purposes include improved speech and communication skills, enhanced social skills, improved self esteem and confidence among persons with Down’s syndrome and reduction

of stress and anxiety among parents/carers. Children with Down syndrome are better enabled, prepared, equipped and skilled for life educationally, emotionally and socially. Children and young people with Down syndrome will develop skills to fulfil their potential. Reducing levels of stress and anxiety amongst parents/carers of those that have Down’s Syndrome. This support will also extend to promoting an increase in awareness and understanding of Down Syndrome within the wider community and to represent the views of those parenting a child or young person with Down syndrome. The direct benefits include improved awareness and positivity surrounding Down syndrome which will give families an increase in confidence To increase partnerships working across communities 2. To provide provision supporting families through fun and inclusive activities with the aim of making their community the best place for children with Down syndrome to live by creating peer networks and improving wellbeing. The direct benefits which flow from the purpose are parents/ carers will feel less isolated and have enhanced emotional well being. will have improved access to support and improved health and wellbeing of young people with Down syndrome through access to a local support organisation. 3.To provide or assist in the provision of training and support for parents of children with Down syndrome. Training and support will benefit parents and their families by providing guidance, support and enhancing their knowledge base enabling them to support other parents. The direct benefits which flow from the purposes are parents/carers will learn new skills and knowledge to create a more positive family environment. How can the benefits identified above be demonstrated? The benefits will be demonstrated through feedback from our beneficiaries, evaluations of our services, increased attendance rates and increased membership. We currently have 80 families involved of young children age 0- 6. The demand for our services are very high due to very little other face to face g support available to families (outside of their Health Centre) before or after a diagnosis in Belfast. Currently we are relying on the use of Church and/or Community Halls for events while we source more permanent premises. Families feel like they are left to arrange therapies, source support etc. We always ask our members for feedback and how we can improve future activities, programmes etc. Is there any harm arising from any of the purposes? No Who are the charity's beneficiaries? Children and young people with Down syndrome, their parents/carer and siblings. Is there any private benefit flowing from any of the purposes? Is it incidental and necessary? No

What your organisation does

Together 21 NI is established to promote social activities for children who have Down syndrome and their siblings by providing social outings and activities which encourages social interaction and independence. Together 21 NI will also provide support and guidance to the parents and families of the children, giving parents the opportunity to

socialise, find mutual support and share thoughts with other parents/carers, helping to alleviate stress and anxiety and enhancing wellbeing. The Group will also increase the capacity, knowledge and skills of parents and carers, resulting in enhanced care and healthy development of young children. We will arrange services or training such as Makaton , Music Therapy, Speech Therapy. We will have monthly support group meetings, arrange for specialist speakers and respond to any issues arising, giving whatever practical support required. We are currently preparing a plan of events for the year ahead. We rely totally on fundraising, grant applications and donations. The group is also an advocacy group for children with Down syndrome and are seeking for a permanent Centre for individuals with Down Syndrome to cover Belfast and surrounding areas. No such facility exists in Belfast.
