Public benefits

The direct benefits flowing from purpose one are: Improved well-being for Northern Ireland's Trans, Non-Binary and Intersex community, improved mental health and opportunities for Northern Ireland's Trans, Non-Binary and Intersex community, Community Development. The direct benefits flowing from purpose two are: To increase public understanding of

the Trans, Non-Binary and Intersex community in Northern Ireland and improve the standing of the Trans, Non-Binary and Intersex community in Northern Ireland. The direct benefits flowing from purpose three are: Promoting equality in Northern Ireland and increased social inclusion for those in the Northern Irish Transgender community. The direct benefits flowing from purpose four are: Enhancing and supporting other charities in the sector who's charitable purposes are in line with the Belfast Trans Resource Centre's purposes, leading to increased support, well-being and understanding of the Transgender, Non-Binary and Intersex communities of Northern Ireland. Purpose number five's direct benefits will flow from the charity being allowed to take whatever actions are needed to improve the well-being of trans, non-binary and intersex service users within Northern Ireland, allowing these needs to be identified and met. The above benefits can be demonstrated by: - Trans, non-binary and intersex people in Northern Ireland reporting a better quality of life. This will be gathered through use of service user survery, interviews and feedback. - A greater public understanding of issues affecting the trans, non-binary and intersex community of Northern Ireland. This can be gathered from surveys from other charities or groups we work with, along with feedback at workshops or events. - Improved quality of trans related healthcare as evidenced by service user experiences improving and feedback from the health trust. - Community feedback after workshops and events demonstrating a better development of skills. There are very few potential harms arising from this work, but they may include the risks of people not benefiting from advice or services when needed, or drawing attention to trans people in a way that puts them at risk from bad actors. We will also potentially be working with vulnerable people, which may give rise to risks to wellbeing. However, the benefits from providing our services outweigh the risk of any potential harm. The charity's beneficiaries are trans, non-binary, intersex, gender diverse or questioning individuals in Northern Ireland. The private benefits flowing from the purposes will be incidental and necessary, the charity hopes to create jobs which will pay and improve the CV of individuals, but this is required in order to deliver services.

What your organisation does

The Belfast Trans Resource Centre is a social hub/community space open freely to members of the trans community of NI. The Centre runs social events, acts as a work space, provides free tea/coffee/snacks, as well as free access to art supplies and a library. Events, such as film clubs and boardgame nights provide a chance to unwind and relax, and

regenerate. Employees and volunteers of the centre are trained to provide advice, guidance and support to the community, and many are advocates for better treatment and support for the community through lobbying for health, justice and access to human rights. Plans for the future of the BTRC include providing skilling and training events to the community, support with lifeskills, and opportunities to volunteer and support other causes in NI. Our centre has service users from diverse cultural, ethinic, religious backgrounds, from across the LGBTQIA+ spectrum. Many of our service users identify as disabled.
