What your organisation does

First Street are a newly registered Community Benefit Society. We have come together from all walks of life within and around Belfast We are in the process of purchasing a building that is based directly on the Interface. First Street Community Benefit Society (FSCBS) will contribute to the objective of ‘Re-imaging Communities’ through the

co-creation of a unique shared space located directly on one of the most challenging interfaces in Northern Ireland. This space will offer a variety of amenities, activities and opportunities for social interaction, helping to promote good relations between the two traditional communities as well as with minority groups. It will also contribute to the physical, social and economic regeneration of the local area, thereby tackling some of the most persistent drivers of inter-communal mistrust and division. In these ways, the project will aim to build the relationships and conditions for local agreement around the reduction, removal or positive transformation of interface structures adjoining the site. The project is also of a sufficient scope and scale to have regional and cross-border significance, particularly in terms of how employment creation, cooperative business development, heritage tourism and education provision will be designed to reach beneficiaries beyond the local catchment area. First Street are already working with these communities on a daily basis.
