Public benefits

The public benefits flowing from the purposes are: - enhanced knowledge and understanding of issues facing society; - stimulating and enhancing educational attainment; - expanding the boundaries of intellectual pursuit; - the development of new ideas and approaches to issues facing society; - the provision of access to

learner lead education free of charge; - access to our library and reading room, educational workshops, seminars, events and courses provided to those who are unemployed and economically disadvantaged free at the point of delivery; - relief of poverty will also be advanced through the development of capacity, skills and knowledge of members of socially and economically disadvantaged groups in a manner that will help them identify and help meet their needs; - enable improved social, economic and cultural engagement; - a growing disposition towards compassion, fairness, social justice, respect and trust; - enhanced knowledge and greater understanding of different communities and cultures; - a reduction in tension, conflict and violence between people from different backgrounds and communities; - greater social cohesion and a transition to safer, shared, more stable society; - free access to useful, insightful and accurate information; - the development of educational advancement and human capital through exploration, shared reading, information, resources, knowledge and culture; - the provision of the library and reading room will enhance the other public benefits flowing from our objects and contribute to the formation of human capital, confidence, the development of social inclusivity and community cohesion. The benefits will be evidenced by relevant data and feedback from participants and visitors and evaluations of the work and impact of the charity. No harm flows from the objects. The beneficiaries of the advancement of education are the general public including but not limited to the unemployed and socially and economically disadvantaged. No private benefit flows from the objects.

What your organisation does

Just Learning Ateneo, Labour history, Co-operation and Heritage ltd is an educational and social justice organisation that provides a library and reading room in Belfast. Recently established, we were registered with Companies House 8th September 2023, by a group of rank and file trade union activists and people with a community education

background. The main focus of our work is the development, maintenance and provision of a library and reading room, the promotion of learner lead education particularly in the area of community and labour history education through workshops, seminars, events, exhibitions and courses.

Charitable purposes

The Charity’s objects (“Objects”) are specifically restricted to the following:- (1) To promote adult education, particularly in the fields of labour and community education, through the direct provision of courses, training, supplementary education and other activities for the benefit of the Northern Ireland community. (2) To relieve poverty and provide for the needs of working class people and of those who are socially, economically or educationally disadvantaged and to develop the capacity and skills of the members of socially and economically disadvantaged communities in such a way that they are better able to identify, and help meet, their needs and enable improvement in their levels of social, economic and cultural engagement and general health and well-being. (3) Providing educational programmes for appropriate organisations concerned with the collective educational needs in the community and in the workplace. (4) Generally furthering the advancement of education to the end that all people may have full access to the education needed for their complete individual and social development. (5) Providing an accessible library with content specific but not limited to the labour movement in Northern Ireland, Ireland, Britain and globally.
