Public benefits

The direct benefits which flow from purpose include improved health outcomes and reduced levels of stress and anxiety amongst our members. The benefits which flow from North Belfast Men’s shed activities include a reduction of social isolation through having a space where men can come and be part of a men shed community, take part in activities

and have a chance to make new friendships. The Shed provides a focus for social involvement and engagement, it promotes healthy activities such as gardening, healthy cooking, and exercise. The Shed encourages continued learning in a relaxed atmosphere through educational workshops/ talks and courses. We give our members opportunities to be fully involved in self-help programmes which improves mental/physical health outcomes. You can learn new skills such as woodworking, craft activities, cooking healthy in order to look after yourself and family. These benefits are evidenced through feedback from members and regular independent evaluation of our services. These benefits are evidenced through feedback from attendees at our events using evaluation forms From verbal feedback of services provided and independent evaluation of our services by our funders. The benefit of these activities can also be seen in community spaces in which the volunteers of the men shed have made garden furniture, volunteer time to pick up litre, amend broken fences and created a positive impact on their community. There is no harm associated with our purposes. The beneficiaries of this purpose are people living in the Belfast Area and beyond. The charities beneficiaries include men (age 18 +) The men's families benefit through the increased well-being of their family members attending the shed. The wider community benefits through the men's direct involvement in community activities making their community a better place to live. There is no private benefit flowing from any of the purposes.

What your organisation does

We carry out our charitable purpose by providing a safe, happy environment for members to pursue hobbies, pastimes and interests. We provide courses to learn new skills and to share existing skills with each other. There is an opportunity to participate in local community based projects and volunteering with other groups/organisations. The North

Belfast Mens Shed promotes personal development, positive mental health and physical activities for the benefit of individuals in Belfast and surrounding areas. . We will also deliver a range of workshops and opportunities to raise awareness on the importance of good mental health and well-being.
