Public benefits

The direct benefits that flow from Strangford and District men’s shed include reduction of social isolation, the improvement of men’s mental health through social engagement and the improvement of the men’s physical health through education and exercise as well as an increase in their well-being. In addition the projects undertaken by the shed

allow engaging with other men to learn, share and develop skills which builds confidence and a sense of belonging. The benefits of the men’s shed can be evidenced through feedback from participants. Internal and external evaluations of the work and impact questionnaires. The numbers of participants gaining new skills and taking part in health and education related programmes is also a measure of the benefits of the shed. No harm is anticipated from the shed’s activities. The beneficiaries are men aged from 18 years predominantly from within the local area. There are no private benefits flowing from the purposes of the shed.

a. Provide projects to assist members maintain or improve their health and wellbeing, by promoting participation and social engagement and which will address a specific need. b. Support and facilitate, where possible, expression of its members through art, craft, music and other forms of practical and creative endeavour. c. Provide or secure the

provision of a community space and maintain and equip premises and facilities designed to carry out the purpose of ‘The Shed’ d. Purchase, take on lease, hire or acquire property and any rights and privileges necessary for the promotion of the above purpose and construct, maintain and alter any buildings which The Shed may think necessary e. Raise funds, receive grants and donations and apply funds to carry out the work of the charity. f. Proactively engage with other local, community and statutory agencies and bodies to promote local arts, heritage, talent and community projects and co-operate with and support other charities with similar charitable purposes.
