Public benefits

The direct benefits flowing from purpose (i) are the advancement of health and the saving of lives through investment in clinical research into two rare genetic conditions which are degenerative. By supporting research into treatment and cures we will be able to improve the lives of those living with these conditions through new treatment options

and reduce the number of people suffering from these conditions by finding a cure. The direct benefits flowing from purpose (ii) are for those living with the conditions and other degenerative conditions, we will be able to improve their happiness and quality of life by providing support in the form of funding therapy (physical and cognitive), equipment, fully inclusive activities and anything that the trustees consider might improve their quality of life. The benefits for purpose (i) will be demonstrated through publication of results in respect of the research funded by the charity, and ultimately through the treatment of those affected as a result of the development of new treatments. The benefits for purpose (ii) will be demonstrated through feedback from our beneficiaries and their families and regular evaluation of the purposes for which the funding is used. There is no harm arising from our purposes. Our beneficiaries are those who are living with canavan disease, spastic paraplegia type 7 and other degenerative conditions living in the Newry, Mourne and Down Council area. There is no private benefit arising from our purposes.

What your organisation does

Glenpatrick Foundation is being set up to meet the aims set out in the memorandum and articles of association. Glenpatrick Foundation will fund research into two very rare degenerative genetic condition which currently receive a very limited amount of research funding, and will also provide financial support people living with these and other

degenerative conditions, as well as their families and carers, in our local area.

Charitable purposes

The objects ('Objects') for which the charity is to be established are: (i) to promote the advancement of health and the saving of lives by funding research into the diagnosis, prevention, treatment and cure of canavan disease and spastic paraplegia type 7; and (ii) to relieve and treat and promote the relief and treatment of people with canavan disease and spastic paraplegia type 7 and other degenerative conditions and to provide support for such persons, their families and carers to improve their quality of life. Nothing in the articles will authorise an application of the property of the charity for purposes, which are not charitable in accordance with section 3 of the Charities Act 2009 For the avoidance of doubt, the system of law governing the articles of association of the charity is the law of Northern Ireland.
