Public benefits

The direct benefits which flow from our purposes include reducing the stress, neglect and suffering of animals. Reducing the number of animals having to go into a rescue centre or council pound by rehoming animals from their homes or in foster. Relieving the stress of pet owners who due to circumstances, can no longer look after their pet. Reducing

the number of stray animals in our community. Assisting with neutering/ spaying which will reduce the number of unwanted litters. Raising awareness and educating the public on aspects of animal welfare, being a responsible owner and what to do if you find a stray animal. Providing local people with volunteer opportunities in our shop, fundraising, or as a foster which promotes a sense of community and belonging and sends a message of kindness and compassion towards animals. The benefits can be evidenced by the number of animals we have found their forever homes, leading to a reduction of the number of stray animals, and this eases the pressure off local rescue centres who may already be full to capacity. It also prevents animals having to go to the local council pound where they could be unnecessarily destroyed. Through education, we have reduced the number of animals needing to be rehomed as sometimes it’s a matter of informing and educating about alternatives rather than just having to give up your pet. There is no harm arising from any of the purposes. The beneficiaries are people and animals in Limavady and surrounding areas. There is no private benefit flowing from any of the purposes.

What your organisation does

Dog Leap Animal Charity aim to carry out the advancement of animal welfare through providing assistance to rehome animals for people in the Limavady and surrounding area (the area of benefit), who due to circumstances can no longer keep them. We will do this through fostering and seeking new homes through the use of social media, connections with

rescue centres and local veterinary practices. We provide an emergency out of hours service to the public to help an animal if found, including wildlife. We help to reunite lost animals with their owners by use of a microchip scanner. We aim to educate the public on aspects of animal welfare. This will be carried out online, through informative videos, in our shop information and advice section, and we link in with local veterinary practices. We will encourage community development by creating activities for local people to get together such as, quiz nights, fun days, and sponsored walks. We have our charity shop run by volunteers and provide opportunities for people to be part of a team and have a sense of connection as a valued member of the community. We will build connections with the local council and assist with environmental issues that may arise within the local community e.g., promote being a responsible dog owner, i.e., having control while walking your dog in public areas (on lead) and encouraging owners to pick up dog foul. We will offer a trap, neuter, release scheme to help control feral cat colonies. As we are in a cost-of-living crisis and there is no help for those on low incomes and with ever rising vet bills, resulting in less dogs being neutered, which could produce unwanted litters. This will in turn put extra pressure on local rescues centres who are under extreme pressure already. We aim to assist those in financial need with the cost of neutering their animal. These purposes will be carried out using the income from fundraising, grants, shop income and public donations.
