Public benefits
Purpose 1: To promote the benefit of the inhabitants of the Burren area, Newry and surrounding district in the County of Down and its environs without distinction of gender, sexual orientation, age, race, ethnicity, or political, religious or other opinion. The direct benefits which flow from Purpose 1 include: (i) encouraging people to become
active citizens with their community in a voluntary capacity, (ii) creating more effective communication between local community groups, (iii) provide access to facilities and activities for voluntary groups and the local population for the benefit of the users; (iv) nurture respect between each and (v) encourage inclusion, discourage displacement and share resources for the benefit of all. Purpose 2: to advance education, including foreign language classes. The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include: (i) the education of people and the opportunity to meet new people as well as learning a new skill; (ii) to promote respective culture/ traditions and enhance better cultural awareness; and (iii) to create opportunities for people to achieve their potential, social mobility, employability and subsequent quality of life. Purpose 3: to provide in the interests of social welfare for recreation and other leisure time occupations with the object of improving the conditions of life for those living in the area of benefit. The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include: (i) the promotion of mental health & wellbeing, physical health, self-care and pathways to effective support; (ii) access to local facilities and activities for voluntary groups and the local population for the benefit of the users. This also promotes social cohesion and inclusion within the area of benefit. These benefits are demonstrated through the number and diversity of groups using our facilities and any feedback which they give us and by the level of uptake of our activities, creating a strong sense of community, improved partnership working and co-facilitation and co-production. The purposes of our charity will not lead to any harm. The charity’s beneficiaries are people living in Burren and the surrounding rural area. There is no private benefit flowing from the purposes of our organisation. There is no private benefit to our Trustees.

Burren Community Association represents the interests of the rural community in Burren and the surrounding rural areas, and works with other local voluntary groups to identify and address issues of common concern within the local community. The Burren Community Association runs Burren Community Hall, a community facility in the village of Burren
which hosts various recreational, cultural and leisure activities including Irish dancing classes, other dancing classes, yoga, farmers meetings, children's creche and playgroup, dramatic society and bowling club, charity coffee mornings, public information meetings as well as providing lecture and conference facilities, meeting rooms and all other initiatives that the community may require from time to time. Burren Community Hall is entirely run on a voluntary effort by the Burren Community Association. The committee of the Burren Community Association works with Burren Dramatic Society who perform plays and concerts in Burren Community Hall for the benefit of the local community and to raise funds to cover the running costs of the Hall. Burren Community Association organises the turning on of the Christmas Lights in Burren annually, which includes a Christmas event each year for local families. Burren Community Association also supports other community events.
