Public benefits

The purpose of the company is to directly impact upon the day to day lives of residents within a designated interface and the wider Waterside area of Derry/Londonderry (therein after called the area of benefit). Through a strategic framework and support structure we will enable and encourage communities to move away from the legacy of the past

towards a future based on a better understanding of cultural diversity, socio-economic areas of common concern and the provision of a safe shared space. The direct benefit which flows from our purpose is creating conditions for establishing an equal society by recognising Section 75 groups and promoting a place where difference is respected and valued as well as the reduction of economic and social disadvantage. These benefits are (will be) evidenced through government statistics and direct feedback from residents using community survey’s focus groups, one to one interviews and evaluation reports. We do not believe that any harm will stem from our purpose as we have policies and procedures in place that provide the framework within which our organisation operates. These define what our organisation does and how it does it. The charities beneficiaries are local people living in the Waterside area of Derry/Londonderry. The only private benefit flowing from this purpose is the payment of staff salaries and this is incidental and necessary as staff are required to progress the work and purposes of the charity to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries.

What your organisation does

Through its core ethos and composition, the company seeks to provide for further opportunities and structures aimed at the continual integration of marginalised communities in this designated area of benefit, to build positive relationships: through targeting commonality of interest and concern, partnership, networking, interaction, dialogue and

sharing of resources – all of which address the fear, mistrust and lack of communication which inhibits equality, understanding and respect. To carry out its purposes Waterside Shared Village Limited will manage Waterside Shared Village Community Hub as a cross community venue available for use by anyone in the area of benefit and provide a wide range of programmes and activities – Community Dialogue, Pre-school Programme, Primary and Post primary support, Lifelong Learning opportunities, Summer Schemes for young and older residents, Festivals Programme, Volunteering, Training Capacity Building, Older Person’s Programmes & Cultural Activities.
