Public benefits

Purpose 1: Advancement of educational opportunities . The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include the building of capacity, competence and skills for the participants, who reside in an area of high depravation, and this includes the opportunity to attend accredited and non-accredited training to receive recognised qualifications which

contribute to improved educational attainment and increased employability options. Purpose 2 - Advancement of Health. The direct befits which flow from this purpose are gained through the provision of training and information sessions to promote healthier lifestyles, address mental health issues such as depression and stress and increase knowledge of health promotion opportunities. Purpose 3 -. The relief of those in need by reason of youth, age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage. The direct benefits are gained by the introduction of services and activities to support the residents of Rathcoole to improve their daily lives. Purpose 4 -The advancement of citizenship or community development . The direct benefits for the community are gained from participation in community development activities which increase capacity for both the participants and residents of the area. This in turn will contribute to increased positive citizenship and also encourage others to become volunteers and contribute to further building of capacity within the estate. The benefits are demonstrated by the numbers of women joining the group and availing of the opportunities available, from verbal feedback from the participants and training providers , the numbers of qualifications gained and our own evaluation of service delivery which include evaluation forms, surveys and focus groups. Benefits for the community can be demonstrated through the provision of enhanced and increased service delivery and activities not previously available in the area, increased working partnerships with other community organisations , statutory agencies and private businesses, and an increase in targeted resources to enhance the lives of residents. This purposes being delivered by the group do not cause any direct harm The beneficiaries in the first instance are the women participating directly in the group who benefit from the educational and skills development opportunities to enhance their life opportunities. The group was developed to provide educational, recreational and social opportunities for women from the greater Rathcoole area of Newtownabbey and their families who reside in an area of high depravation, to build capacity competence and skills. The purpose of the group is to increase educational attainment and training progression through the provision of community education and training opportunities both accredited and non-accredited and in time to extend these opportunities to their family members and the wider community. There is no private benefit to any of the members of the group other than the re-imbursement of reasonable expenses to carry out the duties of the organisation.

What your organisation does

The group was established to provide educational, recreational and social opportunities for women from the greater Rathcoole area of Newtownabbey and their families. It provides a meeting space for local women to meet and engage in various educational and recreational activities on a weekly basis in an area of severe disadvantage.

Charitable purposes

The objects of the group shall be: To promote the benefit of the inhabitants of the Greater Rathcoole area, (hereinafter described as the “area of benefit”) without distinction of age, gender, race, political, religious or other opinion, by association with statutory authorities, voluntary organisations and inhabitants in a common effort to advance education and to provide (or assist in providing) facilities in the interests of social welfare, for health, recreation and leisure time occupation, with the objects of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants.
