Public benefits

Immediate and direct benefits include regular and consistent access to sporting activities for children and young people with learning disabilities, additional needs, and/or sensory processing issues. Many of our Charity Trustees/volunteers are parents/family members who have a child / or children/young people who has additional needs, or learning

disabilities, or sensory issues which preclude their active participation in mainstream sporting activities. We aim to provide our children and young people with the same opportunities as many of their peers, advancing a positive human rights agenda through the promotion of disability equality and equity. At each weekly session the children and young people get to benefit from informal social contact with their friends and peers before any footballing has commenced. This consistent social contact allows genuine friendships to develop with a resulting boost in confidence and self-esteem for our children/young people. Many public benefits arise from getting the children/young people involved positively with a sporting hobby, especially among the disabled community. We are passionate about promoting access to football/sports for children/young people - we live and breathe it everyday, and we want our children and young people to have an interest and enthusiasm for the sport. Through their involvement with Well Lane Warriors the children and young people are better socially integrated, their quality of life is enhanced through increased opportunities for social interaction. Working with other mainstream clubs promotes inclusion and community development, building confidence and a strong civic pride as the young people are proud to represent their club. These benefits can be demonstrated as follows: - at a community level they are documented on our social media channels, through feedback to our volunteers and Trustees and through an ever increasing demand from families for their children to get involved. - we have seen first hand the benefit to the children's physical fitness levels, and a knock on benefit for our volunteers here as well; - there is a noticeable improvement in levels of confidence and self esteem from among our players, for many of these children, this is the first time they have successfully participated in any team sport and it has seen them grow and develop into confident, competent players; - we have had contact from a growing number of local football teams, looking to engage with our team for friendly matches and kick abouts; - we are in the process of developing a bespoke tournament for the Well Lane Warriors to engage with other mixed ability teams across NI; - reported reductions in stress and anxiety. There is no harm arising from any of these purposes. The immediate beneficiaries are children/young people with learning disabilities, additional needs, and/or sensory processing concerns, who reside in the area of benefit. Additional beneficiaries will include the family members/siblings of the above mentioned children/young people. There is also a significant indirect public benefit to wider Northern Ireland society by the promotion and advancement of a fairer, more equal society. Highlighting the skills and achievements of all members of society. There is no private benefit flowing from any of these purposes bar the incidental and necessary - that is, volunteers may get training opportunities that would not otherwise be available, or experience physical and mental health benefits themselves.

What your organisation does

Well Lane Warriors Football Club is a mixed gender & mixed ability/disability football club catering for children and young people with additional needs, learning disabilities, and sensory processing concerns. We are a grassroots club, managed and run entirely by volunteers. Our aim is to provide sporting opportunities, through the medium of

football, to promote access to sports for disabled children/young people and their families. We run weekly training sessions, utilizing local community venues, for the children and young people; these are facilitated by our trained volunteers and will promote: - Access to sports activities for disabled children and young people - Equality and equity for disabled children and young people - Physical fitness - Football skills - Team building - Positive mental health and well-being through increased social interaction and expanding social networks - Preparation for competition and tournaments. - Citizenship and community development Many of our potential Charity Trustees and volunteers are parents or family members who have a child / or children/young people within their family network who has additional needs, or learning disabilities, or sensory issues which preclude their active participation in mainstream sporting activities. We aim to provide our children and young people with the same opportunities as many of their peers can take for granted, advancing a positive human rights agenda through the promotion of disability equality and equity. In addition to the weekly training sessions we work with other mainstream football clubs to offer opportunities for our children and young people to play with those teams and gain further skills and experiences. This year our team played in the Foyle Cup 2022 and it was an incredible experience for all our young players - we are looking forward to seeing the them all progress over the coming years.
