We do this by the promotion of all community initiatives, language and culture, through assistance with participation in health and wellbeing, Scor na nOg and Scor programmes, with the object of improving the conditions of life for people living in our rural community. Further to this, Cairde Eochair (Friends of Augher) works to promote the
advancement of civic pride, education and to stimulate and create interest in the arts for the benefit of the local community, particularly but not exclusively by assistance with the presentation of performances, festivals and cultural events; and the provision of training in the performance of artistic works locally. Examples of how we do this is by providing opportunities for young people to learn and partake in poetry, singing, acting, language as well as arts and crafts. For example, we are currently running after school programmes for young people twice per week, as well as adult Irish language classes. A large element of our community work recently here in rural Augher is to support our elderly community and persons who are living alone and/or unemployed by providing them opportunities to become active in community activities and programmes. We have a pool of older men and woman for example who help maintain grounds around Augher and do gardening across the village by cutting grass, planting, trimming hedges and that type of civic duty activity.
