Public benefits
The direct benefits which flow from the organisational purposes of Omagh Mens Support Group (and also operating within the context of the Charitable Purpose of the advancement of health / saving lives) include improved mental and emotional well being and associated reduced levels of stress and anxiety for men attending the group. In turn, this
facilitates members re-engaging within their own local community both socially and also ,where appropriate, in the world of work, thereby overall helping to promote personal growth, break the cyclical pattern of anxiety and depression and the need to access statutory services. Given the nature of the service provided by Omagh Mens Support Group, it is inevitable that a significant element of the feedback designed to demonstrate the benefits flowing from our purposes will be qualitative in nature.Members will self report on a wide variety of issues such as improved mental health and well-being;increased self confidence and esteem;a renewed sense of community involvement and being able to maintain recovery without necessarily having to seek re-engagement with statutory services.A simplistic monitoring form completed every six months by individual group members will help capture this data.Plans for the ongoing development of the group's website (www.omaghmenssupportgroup.com) include being able to use it as a tool to help demonstrate the benefits arising from membership of OMSG.Finally,an average turnover of 30% in group membership demonstrates a strong element of recovery being maintained by group members who move on and manage from within their own resources. The purposes of Omagh Mens Support Group are clearly beneficial and there is no harm arising. The group also has a 'Safeguarding Policy' statement which contains a clear procedure of how to deal with any issues arising. Membership of Omagh Mens Support Group is open to all men aged 18 years and over residing within the wider Omagh district, regardless of race, nationality ,religion, sexual orientation and disability. There is no private benefit flowing from the purposes of Omagh Mens Support Group.
