Public benefits

The largest and most direct benefits flowing from our organisation are the increased sense of wellbeing, citizenship, and community for our local community. The Carrowdore and District Community Association is aiming to improve the local environment Already our events have increased the awareness of the community and brought various changes to the

environment and health of the village Improvements to access and use of Carrowood. Local clean-up events, and improvement in local environmental situation. Smarter streets, cleaner lanes and tidier grasslands Enabled the local community to access a food-bank during 2020 lockdowns Heart-start training Campaign uptake, improving the chances of heart attack victims, surviving in a rural community. Popular local events during and post lockdown, including some events featured on Northern Irish TV News There is no harm arising from any of the purposes list. The Charities benificiaries are all the people within our village and neighbouring communities. There is little to no private benefit to the members of the Carrowdore and District Community Association, aside from the knowledge of helping build a stronger community with the Carrowdore area

What your organisation does

The Carrowdore & District Community Association was formed in February 2020, just before the COVID pandemic hit. Our focus throughout this time was to adopt a food bank to help those in our local area. We worked in partnership with local church organisations. We provided hundreds of food parcels during the first 12 weeks of lock down in our

community. We have had numerous events with the children in the community such as Easter Colouring in competitions, all undertaken from a distance, where children posted their pictures online and also in their own front windows, much the same as the communities around the UK, with the NHS Rainbows. We managed to perform a community litter pick clean-up of our areas, bringing children and adults together. We also had a very successful Christmas Carnival, where we provided free entertainment in the form of a band, free tuck shop for refreshments, free Santa visit and Christmas Stockings for all children. There were stalls provided by people from within our local community and further afield. Recently we purchased mannequins to run heart start classes, which our community is really interested in this valuable free class. We provided every home where our elderly live with a free flower box We assisted to provide all the villagers who were interested in the ability to grow their own VEG in 2021 with seeds/tubers and containers and soil, with instruction on how to GROW YOUR OWN.
