Public benefits

Those from less well-off backgrounds are supported to further their education and employment opportunities; those dealing with current crises have their issues raised and profiled to the general public; other organisations and individuals learn more about social issues and reformers past and present. Number of bursaries to PhD and post primary

students enabling students to move into higher and further education, attend job interviews, pay for employment related training and equipment etc. Increase in knowledge of the subject matter evidenced through evaluation and feedback from the general public at talks, tours and events. There is no harm or the possibility of harm flowing from the Foundation’s purposes. The charity's beneficiaries include the general public; students as bursary recipients; community and voluntary sector organisations; individuals who have been affected by various forms of discrimination. In working with others to further the purposes of the Foundation there may be an incidental benefit created by increasing the number of people coming into the area this of north Belfast where Clifton House, the home of the Foundation is situated, in that local private sector providers may see an increase in custom.

What your organisation does

The Foundation carries out it purpose regarding educating the public about Mary Ann by delivering talks, tours and events to raise her profile and that of the causes she championed as a social reformer, philanthropist and abolitionist in her day. It delivers bursaries to those from less well-off backgrounds; facilitates talks on current issues such

as refugee crisis and delivers associated practical projects such as helping refugees in NI. It also prompts discussion on historical matters and their current equivalence e.g. such as slavery, philanthropy and modern day slavery and again facilitates practical projects relating to such matters.

The Company's objects ("Objects") are specifically restricted to the following: To advance education of the public about the life and works of Mary Ann McCracken, a leading social reformer and philanthropist, by any charitable means as the directors shall consider appropriate. In the spirit of the legacy and work of Mary Ann McCracken, to advance education, to prevent or relieve poverty, to advance human rights and promote equality in any part of the world by any charitable means as the directors shall consider appropriate and to further any other purpose which is exclusively charitable according to the law of Northern Ireland.
