The direct benefits flowing from our purpose include increased public awareness and visibility of the Belfast LGBT+ community; increased awareness of support services including statutory services for LGBT+ people in Belfast; access to relevant and affirming art and culture for LGBT+ people in Belfast; increased acceptance and a reduction in

experiences of homophobia, biphobia and transphobia for LGBT+ people in Belfast. What your organisation does

Belfast Pride delivers a ten day festival to meet the aims of the organisation. Belfast Pride is a voluntary organisation with a strong volunteer team that organises and delivers a festival that celebrates the culture, diversity and history of the LGBT+ community in Belfast. Belfast Pride is a festival open to everyone and encourages conversation,

collaboration, visibility and mutual understanding. The Belfast Pride Parade is attended by over 50,000 and helps increase public awareness and understanding of LGBT+ people in Belfast and beyond. This increased understanding and visibility helps reduce discrimination against and increase the inclusion of LGBT+ people in Belfast. Belfast Pride also provides an important platform for the promotion of arts including music, visual art, theatre and film through the commissioning of work and the platforming of local and international performer and artists. Belfast Pride is a voluntary organisation with a strong volunteer team that organises and delivers a festival that celebrates the culture, diversity and history of the LGBT+ community in Belfast. Belfast Pride is a festival open to everyone and encourages conversation, collaboration and mutual understanding. Themes for Belfast Pride in recent years have included ‘#Rights Now’ (2019), ‘Come out for Change’ (2018) and ‘Demand Change’ (2017) – the festival deftly mixes protest and celebration, bringing people onside while insisting on rights for all of our community. The festivals activities include events such as debates to exhibitions, as well as an extensive programme of community based events and workshops alongside the centrepiece events of Pride Day including the Belfast Pride Parade, Pride Village and the post parade concert, Party in the Square.

Charitable purposes

The Charity’s objects are: (a) To improve the lives of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer people and including all LGBT+ sexual orientations and gender identities (“LGBT+ people”) in the city of Belfast (the “area of benefit”) by promoting awareness of the arts, cultural heritage, history, lives and experiences of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer, + people in Belfast, and by promoting awareness and support for LGBT+ people to all citizens of Belfast to benefit LGBT+ people and enhance their place as equal citizens in city; (b) to increase public awareness and the education of the general public in relation to lives, issues, history, and culture affecting LGBT+ people in Belfast; (c) to increase support for equality and diversity in Belfast and contribute to reducing discrimination against LGBT+ people in Belfast; (d) to organise and deliver an annual LGBT+ festival, “BELFAST PRIDE FESTIVAL” and supporting events throughout the area of benefit including music, visual art, comedy, theatre, film and literature events and other associated activities; (e) to promote and assist in the co-operation and networking between voluntary and community organisations and individuals engaged in programmes of public education designed to increase public understanding and awareness of LGBT+ people; (f) to advance any other exclusively charitable purpose as the directors, may from time to time, decide in accordance with Charity law. The Charity shall endeavour to operate in an open, accountable and inclusive way in all its activities; (g) To empower and support other local Pride organisations in their efforts to plan and promote pride celebrations and to take part in national Pride organisations in the UK and Ireland as well as European and global Pride networks.
