Public benefits
The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include: improved physical health and mental well being by using the gym and exercise classes; increased social interaction through our recreational classes such as sewing, flower arranging; the playgroup which provides high quality childcare locally enables parents to have time away from caring
responsibilities in which case they can recharge their batteries leading to a less stressful lifestyle; we facilitate the Credit Union which alleviates local poverty through low cost loans and encouraging people to save; farmers who availed of our IT courses are more able to conduct their business more efficiently and meet the Department’s expectations of submitting forms online. These benefits will be evidenced by: increasing numbers attending events, classes and gym; verbal feedback from participants; written feedback from our comments box; number of comments/ likes on facebook; increased engagement and interest from the community. There is possibility of harm in the gym but we mitigate against this by having equipment which meets British standards and is checked regularly. We have a resident personal trainer who gives induction to all new members and is on site evening times when the gym is busiest. We have a first aid kit on site and strict accident reporting procedures and there is always someone else on the premises. The playgroup follows Early Years guidelines and has rigorous policies and procedures in place for the care of the children. The charity’s beneficiaries are people within the Altamuskin area and surrounding townlands. There is no private benefit flowing from this purpose.

We are a community group based in Altamuskin Community Centre, we provide facilities for The Magic Roundabout Playgroup, Moyenir Credit Union, Saint Brigids Youth club, Altamuskin Cycle Club and our social enterprise BodyTec Gym. The Centres facilities are used by the people of Altamuskin and surrounding areas, Garvaghey, Glencull, Ballygawley,
Cloughfin, Carrickmore and more. We accommodate community/family events, such as parties, funeral dinners, fundraisers, indoor soccer and other cross community events. We have close links with the local primary school. Our main events throughout the year are The Altamuskin 5 mile run on 17th of March and Breakfast with Santa in December, both are cross community events. We promote the run in association with Athletics NI and advertise it as one of the toughest 5 miles in Northern Ireland. The Run attracts approximately 300 runners and walkers from children to 75 years of age, with runners coming from across Northern Ireland. The centre was opened in 1998 and has been run by Altamuskin Community Association since. There have been several committees, each one passing on a thriving, vibrant and well-maintained building.
