Public benefits

The direct benefits that flow from these purposes include: the enhancement of the specialist skilled workforce in the area of psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy by enabling talented individuals who could not otherwise afford it to acquire education and training in this specialism to the highest international standards; through the

provision by grantees, in the course of the training facilitated by the charity and beyond, of low-fee specialist psychoanalytic treatment to members of the public who could not otherwise afford to access it; the contribution of grantees to improved levels of mental wellbeing in the community; the saving of lives by, for example, contributing to a reduction in the levels of suicide in the community. These benefits can be demonstrated by the increased number of individuals of modest means who are enabled by grants to apply to, be admitted to, and graduate from an accredited specialist training in psychoanalysis. Also by an annual audit of the provision of low-fee specialist psychoanalytic treatment to members of the public who could not otherwise afford to access it. [Is there any harm arising from any of the purposes? No [Who are the charity's beneficiaries?] Directly, talented members of the public who are potential applicants to and trainees of the Northern Ireland Psychoanalytic Society (a registered charity and the only accredited provider of psychoanalytic training in Northern Ireland); and (through the provision and support of public lectures and conferences) mental health clinicians and members of the wider public. Indirectly, members of the wider public receiving low-fee specialist psychoanalytic treatment who could not otherwise afford to access it. [Is there any private benefit flowing from any of the purposes? Is it incidental and necessary?] No
