The direct benefits from purpose 1 are increased understanding by people of all traditions in Ireland of our shared history contributing to conflict resolution and facilitating a change in negative attitudes and an increase in positive cross-community and civic involvement through learning and activities which challenge negative perceptions and
stereotypes leading to positive cross community engagement. The direct benefit from purpose 2 is a wider recognition of the inter-connected development of traditions and cultures across Europe. The direct benefits from purpose 3 are the promotion of understanding and good relations between communities, while pursuing the principles of respect for diversity and emphasizing common community interests and needs as part of a programme of contributing to a process of inter-culturalism and the improving of cross-community and inter-ethnic relations and understanding. Fostering a greater appreciation and enjoyment of the societal and community benefits of a multicultural society which adds to the richness and diversity of all our lives. The direct benefits from purpose 4 are the creation of the conditions for positive community and civic involvement across the spectrum through positive cross community engagement. Breaking down barriers to inclusion and community cohesion including mis-understanding, stereotyping, prejudice, and discrimination. Leading to a decrease in the incidence of hate crime and intimidation and improved cross-community and inter-ethnic relations and understanding between all peoples here, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background. The direct benefits from purpose 5 give participants the skills and confidence to work across community divides breaking down barriers and building respect and trust between those communities. These skills provide the tools to dispel myths and stereotypes which feed mistrust and suspicion of the “other” and opens the way to build stronger positive community cohesion. The numbers of individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds participating together engaging together and working together with the programmes, projects, and activities that the Plough are running or taking part in. The analysis of “Before and After” surveys looking at the demographic breakdown of beneficiaries and attitudinal change among beneficiaries to measure changes in perspectives and cross community relationships. No harm arises from the purposes The charity’s beneficiaries are ...people from all backgrounds, traditions, and cultures predominantly in the north of Ireland though from time to time beneficiaries may come from other localities, for example during visit to sites of historical or cultural significance across the island of Ireland or other such sites across Europe. Private benefit may flow from the purposes of the Plough Historical and Cultural Group in the form of salaries for paid staff and payments to suppliers for goods and services such as office costs and programme costs on projects carried out by the group in pursuit of its purposes. This is incidental and necessary to achieving the purposes of the Group.

The Plough Historical and Cultural Group carries out its purposes through developing, managing or taking part with partners in projects and programmes which bring together people of diverse backgrounds to learn about the history and culture of Ireland from a “shared history perspective”. The group works with other groups and individuals from all
communities to reinforce the positive benefits of the Irish Peace Process. There is an on-going commitment to Networking with other groups and co-operating on projects which bring people from diverse backgrounds together with a common purpose for the benefit of all who live here and to hosting, participating in, and attending conferences, seminars, workshops and cross community engagements in line with the group’s long-term commitment to anti-sectarianism and to reaching across community divisions as a contribution to conflict transformation and supporting the process of peace on the island of Ireland.
