Public benefits
The direct benefits are as follows: - Improved mental health: 1. For all beneficiaries of the Christmas Appeal - by easing some of the financial burden we will be easing pressures on mental health. 2. For participants in our activities, events and opportunities; by participating in the knitting class you will reduce social isolation, make new
connections and benefit from signposting to other relevant services. - Relief of poverty: by focusing our services/provision on those families/households who are experiencing the greatest financial struggles we will be easing some of the poverty experienced. Our approach will always strive to counter the consequences of poverty and deprivation by providing no cost/low cost opportunities. - Advancing community development - by promoting social inclusion, always working in partnership, encouraging and supporting community & voluntary activity to both improve individual mental health and encourage greater civic pride. - Advancing education the public benefit involves encouraging and providing opportunities to increase skills and capacity through the provision of training or retraining opportunities - particularly among the unemployed and supporting personal development & life skills training. Overall, residents who reside in the area of benefit can expect to receive many more benefits through their participation/involvement with Caring Coins, in addition to the above; - better life opportunities - opportunities to engage in more active lifestyles through the provision of health related activities and programmes leading to improvements in physical, mental health & well-being - opportunities for stronger bonds to develop between people which will reduce social isolation and contribute to a stronger, more cohesive community - opportunities for the community to come together to participate and contribute to a vibrant community life, increased engagement. These benefits can be demonstrated as follows: - at a community level they are documented on social media channels, through feedback to our Trustees and volunteers and through an ever increasing demand for our support. - feedback and evaluations from our wide range of partners for our Christmas Appeal 2021; they are already commenting on the tremendous benefit we are providing to many struggling families. (We did not want to accept any private pleas to our Appeal because we would have no way of verifying that 'the need' was legitimate, or that the support wasn't being duplicated by others). - we will run an Annual General Meeting where we will present our Trustees Report detailing all we have delivered for the benefit of the public; we will also present our independently examined accounts for the year and will open the 'floor' up to any questions afterwards. - End of Grant reports to funders will also demonstrate the public benefit of our work There is no harm arising from any of the purposes. The immediate beneficiaries are those residents living within our area of benefit. As our area of benefit is quite large we will be prioritizing those residents living within identified areas of deprivation or areas at risk - this will particularly relate to our annual Christmas Appeal as we need to direct those resources to those most in need in the first instance. Through our partnership work with other community/voluntary sector organisations we will be able to increase the reach of our work, and our partners. We are developing some cross-community and inter-community project ideas - such as community growing and crafting projects that will bring further benefits to residents within the area of benefit. There is no private benefit flowing from any of these purposes bar the incidental and necessary fact that Trustees will often get to hear about wider opportunities before members of the general public/residents within our area of benefit.

Caring Coins Association is a grassroots community association, managed and run entirely by local volunteers. The Association will be striving to provide a year long programme of activities, events and opportunities that all aim to improve and encourage positive mental health. Each year the Association will deliver a Christmas Appeal, in
recognition of the fact that this is a particularly difficult and stressful time of the year for many families. The Association have established partnerships with a wide range of local agencies to help deliver the Christmas Appeal 2021; agencies such as Confederation of Community Groups, SHSCT, NMDDC, Women's Aid, Bolster Community, SureStart, Home Start, Kilkeel Development Association, Community Advice and Southern Age Well Network (to name a few). These agencies are best placed to identify families/households, from their own registrations; once identified they then pass an 'anonymised referral' down to our Association and our volunteers will then source presents, food etc. Volunteers are fundraising throughout the 'area of benefit' by collecting any 'spare coins/change' - they work with local agencies to ensure people in the local community are aware that they are there on a particular day; all volunteers are in uniform, with ID badges and sealed collection buckets. The Association has also established partnerships with many private businesses; many of whom have come on board to sponsor a family for Christmas. The Association will also be working to deliver other opportunities for people to come together and reduce isolation, learn new skills, make new connections, create inter-generational opportunities reducing stigma around mental health. This will be achieved through community learning opportunities, making use of the many community facilities throughout the area of benefit; environmental projects, community growing projects, social action projects, crocheting and knitting groups (such as our Baby Beth Blankets).
