Public benefits

MADE In Mourne (MiM) is a Social Enterprise providing facilities, knowledge, and support for local entrepreneurs in the rural coastal Mourne region, to launch and sustainably grow a business. MiM is helping small businesses counteract the lack of opportunities, poor internet connectivity, and physical isolation in an economically deprived rural

area. It inspires, educates, and supports local businesses, entrepreneurs and talented individuals by offering a co-working environment and providing the opportunity to network and build relationships. By providing the right facilities and support networks, MiM helps grow the local economy and enables job creation by helping businesses thrive. MADE in Mourne does this through a dedicated premises in Kilkeel, comprising of the [Craft] Shop and [Business] Hub. The Shop promote the products of talented local makers. It offers valuable commercial shelf space in a prominent retail location and an online presence through our website. MiM helps entrepreneurs to raise their profiles and build sustainable growth through training and collaboration. The Hub is a modern connected workspace spread over two floors. It offers meeting rooms, and private or shared office spaces, with no long-term lease commitment. It provides connection to high-speed internet and a place to concentrate on work for as long as is needed. It is a space for creatives and start-ups to meet, connect, learn, showcase, collaborate, engage in workshops/seminars, teach and exhibit. MiM promotes arts & creative processes to the general public. The benefits which flow from this are heightened confidence, purpose, creative capacity & professional development among new & emerging Mourne artists; - the enhanced awareness & knowledge of the general public in all aspects of art and the creative processes & a heightened sense of fulfilment, well-being & aesthetic appreciation arising from the opportunity to engage with artists & participate in creative activity. [How can the benefits identified above be demonstrated?] The MiM Shop has supported 70-80 makers on an ongoing basis. The online shop was launched in Sept 2019 and provides an exciting opportunity for the makers to sell their product around the world. MiM has worked with 100+ entrepreneurs through The Hub and numerous members of the public have engaged. It hosted 5 networking events, 5 workshops and 5 creative workshops in the space during the year to 31/3/2020. MiM worked with 5 local businesses to develop the Kilkeel Walking Food Tour to promote and showcase the Kilkeel area to locals and tourists. Many networking connections were made on an American trip & a £10,000 donation was secured. MiM has had a massive social impact on the community within Kilkeel and Mourne. It has inspired other rural community groups. MiM has provided a neutral location within a divided local community. It has allowed organisations like Youth Action to engage with the Youth from both sides, giving them a safe place and a voice in their hometown and community. The Trustees believe there is no harm flowing from any of the purposes. The direct beneficiaries are local businesses, entrepreneurs and talented individuals and creatives in the Mournes area using the service directly. Other beneficiaries are the local Mourne community & youth. The charity benefits are also open to the wider public as a whole. The trustees believe there is no private benefit flowing from any of the purposes.

What your organisation does

MiM is a space that inspires, educates and supports local businesses, entrepreneurs and talented individuals by offering a co-working environment and providing the opportunity to network and build relationships. As a Social Enterprise, the aim is to continue to develop the support network MiM's offers by opening up opportunities for digital

training, business growth and collaboration through community groups, all of which were previously unavailable in the rural coastal environment. MiM believe that by providing the right facilities and support networks, we will grow the local economy and enable job creation, helping small businesses to thrive. The Made In Mourne Shop is our space to find and promote the products of talented local makers. Based in Kilkeel and Online, the shop is packed with the best handmade crafts & produce from independent entrepreneurs. Behind every unique product there is the story of a genuine local talent who has been given the opportunity, exposure, and support they need to grow their business in the Mourne region. MiM offers them valuable shelf space in a prominent retail environment and online through our website. We help them raise their profiles and to build support networks among peers. We encourage professionalism, and support sustainable growth through training, collaboration and innovation. The Made In Mourne Business Hub is a modern connected workspace providing the facilities for local entrepreneurs to launch and grow their businesses. Split over two floors, the Business Hub provides an adaptable dedicated space in which to work and training to develop the skills needed to sustainably grow a modern business in our rural coastal region. Every business has unique requirements, but everyone needs a place to concentrate on work. Be that for an hour, a day, a week, or for “the foreseeable”. We offer meeting rooms and private or shared office spaces, all positioned around a central hot-desking area with informal breakout booths.
