Bonds Street Community Association was set up in 2001. Our group is a grass-roots community organisation set up to try and improve the wellbeing of all residents within the area and the surrounding areas. We have a management committee of 10 including 3 local councillors from Derry City & Strabane District Council (DCSDC). The committee consists
of office bearers i.e. Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer and meet once a month. The main activities of our group are wholly inclusive and are representative of all age groups and genders. These activities include Positive Parenting, Pre-school, after schools, Youth club, Male & Female fitness classes, Older Peoples programmes and Training and educational classes. Other services include Welfare Rights and Housing Executive clinics. The main focus of our activities, in recent years, has been to develop youth activities and reach out to all young people within the estate and the surrounding areas to provide them with new opportunities and experiences, to divert them from the on-going temptation to get involved with anti-social behaviour. The area suffers from acute incidents of anti-social behaviour and is ranked the 13rd most deprived area in relation to incidents of anti-social behaviour in Northern Ireland (NIMDM 2017).
