Public benefits
The charity trustees believe that our listed purposes satisfy both elements of the public benefit requirement. The direct benefits which flow from our first purpose include the reduction in the number of suicides and instances of self-harm in Northern Ireland. This is achieved through the immediate intervention to those most at risk of suicide.
Another benefit is the creation of a community of like-minded individuals who can gather together in order to discuss their trauma, and healing process. This will be facilitated at the centre through a weekly coffee morning. The direct benefits which flow from our second purpose include breaking down the stigma often associated with mental health. This will be achieved through preventative public education delivered across Northern Ireland, to those of all ages, gender and background. All of these benefits are evidenced through the number of people using our services, which is documented in monthly operational reports produced to trustees detailing the number of clients which the centre has cared for, as well as detailing educational workshops which have been conducted. This can additionally be evidenced through feedback provided from clients who regularly use our services varying in age, gender and walks of life. There is no harm arising from any of the purposes Beneficiaries of the Niamh Louise Foundation are people based in rural Northern Ireland suffering from poor mental health or those living in rural Northern Ireland bereaved by suicide. There is no known private benefit arising from the purpose of our organisation. The organisation's committee and trustees are all volunteers and there is no private benefit or financial rewards for this work.
... [more] [less]What your organisation does
We are a suicide prevention charity that provides one-to-one care for anyone in crisis with thoughts of suicide and or self-harm. We provide assistance to people in despair or distress in order to reduce the incidence of suicide in Northern Ireland. We seek to raise awareness of suicide through various sources of literature and training workshops
on suicide and self-harm. The Niamh Louise Foundation staff and volunteers are fully trained to intervene with individuals who are most vulnerable and are at risk of suicide or self-harm by following the first aid models provided through ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) and MHFA (Mental Health First Aid). We also provide support for bereaved families who have lost a loved one to suicide and support for those who have been affected by suicide. This is done through complementary therapy and mentoring and befriending for all those in the community who have been affected by suicide as well as for those who are at risk and are in emotional distress and despair.
