In connection with the purpose for the advancement of education the Foundation has supported work into the dissemination of the achievements of the First Marquess of Dufferin and Ava and published a book in 2015. It has restored artifacts that are of historic significance connected with his legacy. It has also placed considerable records with the
Public Record Office and permits public access to archives held at Clandeboye for the purposes of permitting research into the life and times of the First Marquess and in negotiating to further that relationship for the public benefit. It has organised study parties at Clandeboye. To further its charitable purpose of advancement of environmental protection or improvement the Foundation has promoted and aided the work for over 20 years of the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers and more recently of the The Woodland Trust for the use of the property at Clandeboye for the education of volunteers, students and others into forestry management, the preservation of woodland species, the development of a disease free nursery and the education of the public generally into the threat of disease to native tree species and its management. This is in line with Government policy of encouraging woodland for public health. In recent years the Foundation has been working closely with the NI Forestry Schools Association under a cross community initiative to get children and families to use the natural environment as a way to encourage learning. In this way the Foundation demonstrates public benefit through the increased numbers of people having access to the Clandeboye Estate and its legacy landscape for learning and health promotion. The Foundation has been a long term supporter of Northern Ireland Hospice which it has assisted with fundraising activities and through relationships with others abroad to ensure the provision of palliative care for the benefit of the public in Northern Ireland and elsewhere including India.
