Our main function is to ensure that the most disadvantaged within our community are supported while not disregarding the other members of the community. We provide a subsidised Meals on Wheels service and have a drop in luncheon club. Our premises are used to facilitate meetings between NIHE Patch Manager and local NIHE tenants. We have a contract
with Advice North West to provide local residents with a free and confidential advice service. We advocate on behalf of our residents and provide the opportunity for educational and recreational courses during term time. We work closely with other rural groups including DEARA, RAPID and the L.D.G. We hold an annual free summer festival which, caters from the cradle to the grave, and again in the autumn we provide further opportunities for the community to come together and enjoy one and others company and to reduce social isolation. We try to improve this festival each year. We advocate and campaign on behalf of the community to ensure that as far as possible their needs are met in relation to health, education, recreation and social matters and that these services are used. We manage and administer the Strathfoyle/Maydown Community Safety Forum which works in harmony with agencies such as PSNI, NIHE, Derry City & Strabane District Council, E.A. and local schools. We interact with all local businesses within the Strathfoyle/Maydown area to ensure that they understand their neighbours needs forbye their own. During the Covid-19 pandemic we have been at the forefront ensuring residents, especially those advised to shield, were and continue to be supported. In recent years we have been successful in securing a new park for children and young people and at present we are involved with Derry City & Strabane District Council, DfI and DfC for the ongoing construction of the Strathfoyle Greenway which will enable our community to travel from Strathfoyle to the city centre either walking or biking in a safe manner.
