... [more] [less]What your organisation does
The Aman Association is the only community organisation in the South West of Northern Ireland catering specifically for the needs of Muslims. Based in County Fermanagh, the Aman Association provides a point of contact for Muslims within County Fermanagh and surrounding areas, and organises religious and cultural activities and events, including
the celebration of religious festivals, the organisation of prayer facilities, and provision of a mosque school and a women’s group. The Association acts as a point of contact providing outreach and pastoral services supporting the welfare of Muslims. This includes activities such as assisting recent Syrian refugees who have been resettled in the area and providing a point of contact and support for bereavement. The Aman Association represents the needs of Muslims to public authorities and service providers locally, such as Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, the PSNI, the health authority and schools, and works with agencies and organisations providing local services to ensure that they are aware of and cater for the religious, cultural and practical needs of Muslim members of the population. The Association also works in collaboration with the Council’s community relations department and with community organisations, including faith-based ones, to promote good community relations, to breakdown misconceptions and to foster mutual respect and understanding between Muslims and members of the wider community. The Association has acquired its own premises in Enniskillen to provide a mosque and community centre. This is the first ever mosque in the South West of Northern Ireland. The Centre will provide dedicated facilities for both religious practice and for welfare, including cultural, recreational and educational activities.
