Public benefits

The direct benefits flowing from the Trust’s purposes are that the public will be educated about the history of Boomhall Estate and will appreciate its architecture, and its historical importance to the history of Derry. Boomhall Estate’s historic parkland and garden will be protected and restored for the appreciation of the public and they will be

educated concerning its ecology and biodiversity. The Estate’s river shore parkland and iconic landscapes will be accessible for physical recreation and the leisure time use and enjoyment of the public, and the buildings of the Estate will be brought into charitable use to educate the public and provide a venue to meet other charitable needs within the community. These benefits will be demonstrated by feedback from partner organisations and the general public, and from the reports of the trustees and partner organisations and the Trust's annual accounts. There is no harm arising from any of the Trust's purposes. The Trust's beneficiaries are the public at large and especially members of local communities within Derry/ Londonderry and surrounding areas, including those who are disadvantaged. The Boomhall Estate is owned by Derry City and Strabane District Council. Any benefit the Council derives from the restoration and regeneration of the Estate and its properties and grounds will however be an incidental and necessary consequence of the Trust undertaking its charitable purposes. The Trustees will ensure that the Trust has an effective degree of control over the Estate to ensure that long term public benefit and access is maintained and will ensure that it receives a benefit (for the public) commensurate with the amount of funds it expends in connection with the Estate. The Trust will use the services of contractors and professionals, and may in the future directly employ staff, but any personal benefit derived by such contractors and persons employed will also be an incidental and necessary consequence of the Trust undertaking its charitable purposes.
