Public benefits

The direct benefits flowing from these purposes are that children and young people will develop their physical skills and aerobic capacity and have improved physical and emotional health. Young people will benefit from social inclusion and will build their confidence and self -esteem through participation in sport and social activities and will be

encouraged to adopt healthy and active lifestyles. Volunteering and social responsibility will be encouraged and capacity will be built within the local community to address its own needs. These benefits will be demonstrated by feedback from participants, players, volunteers and the general public obtained through such methods as public consultations, interviews, group discussions, focus groups, surveys and questionnaires around the benefits of activities, discussion at club and AGM meetings. The benefits will be identified by evaluations of our activities, programmes and services and feedback from other agencies and stakeholders and partner organisations. We will also monitor information such as participant numbers within sessions, membership, retention of members and links with other programmes, organisations and agencies. The effectiveness and benefits of our activities will be reported upon in our annual report and the annual accounts. There is no harm arising from any of the purposes. The charity’s beneficiaries are principally the children and young people living in the Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council area, and also children and young people from outside of the geographic borough. We may in the future also develop projects which benefit and address the needs of other groups within the local community, especially those who are disadvantaged. There is no private benefit.

What your organisation does

Glenavon Youth Academy facilitate sporting and community activity for young people from across Northern Ireland particularly across Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon. The Academy is volunteer driven in terms of the management committee and coaches. Our core activity is football coaching for more than 200 children and young people aged 5-17 years old.

Additional to our core function the academy aims to develop social responsibility of the young people through community development initiatives e.g. diversionary activities to reduce anti-social behaviour, education, health and wellbeing i.e. drugs, alcohol, suicide awareness, nutrition workshops etc. We encourage and develop collaboration and partnership working between organisations working with young people and sharing of experience of knowledge between volunteers. Further to working with the young people, we aim to develop our volunteers and coaches. Investment and development in the people who help run the youth academy will ensure we can offer excellence and services to young people and their families. We carry out this work by provide facilities, promoting and delivering high quality coaching in the game of association football to all sections of the community and actively extend a welcome to new members from all sections of the community. We provide and encourage the local community regardless of race, religious beliefs, or creed to participate in its activities all conducted in a safe and neutral environment. We promote healthy recreation opportunities such mental health awareness, healthy eating and physical wellbeing through talks and lectures that promote learning and education in the wider community increasing knowledge and skills. We carry out fundraising activities to promote charitable aims and objectives. Glenavon Youth Academy is a cross community organisation and we aim to contribute to positive community relations in the Borough and across NI.
