Public benefits

Purpose 1: Advancing the education of pupils in the school. The benefit which flows from this purpose includes increased educational progress and attainment of pupils in the school and links built with the local community. This is demonstrated through pupils having access to resources, events, activities and links with the local community which are

not available through direct school funding. Purpose 2: Foster relationships between staff and parents; engage in and support activities which support the school and advance the education of those attending it. The benefit which flows from this purpose includes funding for additional resources for the school and links built with the local community. This is demonstrated through having an active PTA that works in partnership with the school and engages parental support. The purposes do not lead to harm. The benefit is for children at Orritor Primary School. Charity trustees (Parents’ Support Group committee members) are also parents at the school which their children attend and hence gain benefit in the same way as all other beneficiaries. This benefit is incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to all beneficiaries.

What your organisation does

Primarily, we are a fundraising group of volunteers, who are parents of children attending Orritor Primary and nursery unit. We achieve this through organising and running various events throughout the school year. In the past couple of years this has included a Charity Fashion show, Annual Coffee and Craft Evening, Girls Pamper Night, Childrens

Elfridges Christmas Shop, Santa Breakfast, Jumping Clay Model Workshop, Concerts, Paula McIntyre Cookery Demonstration Night - also publishing our very own recipe book and fireside quizzes to name a few. Other fundraising methods include clothing recycle bin (situated outside the school entrance for community access). During our fundraising we also feel it is very important to not only support the school but also to support some local charities. So we choose one of our larger well attended events in the school year and divide the monies raised with a charity as well as support the school - In the past we have supported MS Cookstown, Mid Ulster Stroke Survivors Association, Children with Cancer, Epilepsy NI and this year our charity is the NI Air Ambulance. We have regular meetings throughout the school year to plan our next events and try something different each year for the Orritor School Family to come along with family and friends to enjoy. These decisions are discussed and decided on as a group majority as the volunteers are all giving of their time to run the events but we are committed to the best of our efforts and within our small budgets to show equality and inclusion of all children and their families.
