Public benefits

The direct benefits which flow from the purposes are that people of the Muslim faith will be able to fulfil their daily congregational prayers and celebrate their festivals, support will be provided to source Halal food which is an essential dietary requirement for Muslims, families will be given the opportunity to get to know other families living

in the area, more engagement with the wider community such as local charitable bodies, promotion of social cohesion and contribution to the general well-being of the wider community for the benefit of all in this multi faith community to create a warmer living environment. The benefits will be evidenced through the documentation and annual reporting of all activities. There is no harm arising from the purposes of the association. The beneficiaries are the already established and newly arrived Muslim families in Newry and Mourne and surrounding areas, local Muslims community and the general wider community. There is no private benefit arising from the purposes.

What your organisation does

The Association hold religious events on a weekly basis to fulfill the needs of the Muslim community. The Association is involved in activities with cross cultural and interfaith links for promotion of religious, social and cultural harmony and integration. The Association represent interests of Muslim families in the NM&D district area by

engaging with the council officials, school authorities and health and social care authority. Advancing education: The association organises religious education classes both for children and adults. Association has provided for specific educational needs of school going children of refugees on their arrival to the area. Relieving social distress: Association organises family social events to bring families together living in different areas of the council i.e. people living in Downpatrick to meet people from Newry and Warrenpoint and Bessbrook etc. Promoting health & Social integration: Association holds gatherings in collaboration with NM&D district council and the Southern health Trust to promote health and wellbeing messages. These gatherings are open to all therefore provide an opportunity for meeting with people from other cultures and faiths. Council DEA coordinators have played a significant role in helping us to organise these events.

Charitable purposes

3.1 The Association is established for the benefit of the Muslim families in Newry & Mourne and surrounding areas by promoting Islamic culture, advancing education, relieving social distress and by providing information for the promotion of health and recreation with the aim of improving the conditions of life of the said families, parents and children.
