We provide alternative options for young people at the weekends and at night time to keep them off the street. This has significantly reduced the young people from this area being involved in rioting in the interface area and allows the police to direct resources where it is needed. In addition we provide a youth club 4 nights a week for teenagers.
This promotes health and well being of this target group which we believe ultimately improves their educational attainment. We run a pensioners club on a Monday to reduce isolation and combat mental ill health among this very isolated group. The benefits are that it reduces the demand on the local GP/Health service. While no scientific research has been carried out we know the impact of our work as the beneficiaries not only tell us but is demonstrated through their daily living. Our young people make us proud when they meet others and do not display a negative and bigoted attitude towards others who they perceive to be different. Young people through subliminal and direct training/community development work being carried out enable this group of detached youth secure meaningful jobs when they leave school. Our pensioner's tell us how much they value the support and interaction we provide. How it is the only communication they may have with people on a weekly basis. While I have no facts from our local GP one can assume that this would clearly reduce the demands placed on our health service There is no harm arising from the purpose. The beneficiaries are the whole community in and around the lower Shankill. That is those who are the direct beneficiaries and avail of our services but also those who do not directly avail but still benefit eg from a reduction in anti social behaviour as we provide a safe place for teenagers at night. There is no private benefit

Throughout the year we offer a suite of education/training/recreation options to the local community. This ranges from courses in IT to supporting the elderly with loneliness. We also run health and well being programmes for all ages. We run a summer scheme and provide for cross border development for the young people in the Shankill to reduce
barriers with similar people in the Republic of Ireland. We also support and initiate environmental improvements programs in the local community.
