Public benefits
The direct benefits flowing from the organisation's purposes are: A. Increased educational progress and attainment of pupils in the school and nursery unit B. Increased social opportunities between the staff, parents, pupils and others associated with the school by engaging in new activities that bring all together C. Providing funding for
extra items and events to enrich the learning experience of the pupils in the school and nursery unit that fall outside the school’s budget D. Forging links with the local community;, and also reaching out into the local community to involve a broader cross-section of people in school events, leading to an enhanced quality of life, sense of well-being, greater social cohesion and fulfilment. These benefits can be evidenced by the additional resources and events that pupils have availed of through PTA funding; verbal and written feedback gained from parents/carers and staff throughout the year (questionnaires); observations and feedback gained during events such as the highly successful Santa Supper and high level of achievement both in formal assessments and extra-curricular activities of our pupils. This purpose does not lead to any harm. The intended beneficiaries of this purpose are the pupils at Cooley Primary School and Nursery Unit, their families and the local community. Charity trustees (PTA committee members) are usually also parents at the school and nursery unit which their children attend and hence gain benefit in the same way as all other beneficiaries. This benefit is incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to all beneficiaries.

Cooley Primary School and Nursery Unit PTA engage in fundraising to help resource the school and nursery unit, and enhance the education of the pupils. This is achieved through organising events, involving pupils, parents and the wider community, and sourcing applicable grant funds. Events held in the past include fashion shows, quiz nights,
forest fun walks, film nights, Family Fortunes and Beetle Drives. We have been successful in obtaining funds from Slieve Divina Wind Farm and Rural Micro Grants for IT equipment, bulb planting, outside seating and gardening equipment. We also offer practical support to the school when certain events, such as sports day and Christmas performances, are being held. With the additional funds that the events raise, we are able to provide pupils with extra resources within school as well as helping to fund a range of other activities and subsidise trips.
