What your organisation does

Naíscoil na Fíobha is an Irish language nursery school located in Toomebridge, an area that has a large amount of socially disadvantaged and educationally deprived families. Our aim is to promote bilingual education and the Irish language throughout Toome and the local area and to develop and foster a shared cultural identity for all. The benefits

of bilingualism and bilingual education amongst young children have been well documented as having educational, cultural and moral advantages that have a far reaching effect on the comunities that these children are part off. We hope that by developing cultural awareness through the Irish language amongst young children that we will also engage their families, friends and wider locality and develop a sense of mutal benefit for all. We currently operate monday to friday from 9am to 1230pm teaching the pre-school cirriculum through the medium of the Irish language. We also offer occasionally cultural and fundraising activities that involve parents and families as well as engage young volunteers within the community. We have a progression link with a nearby Irish medium primary school which offers our children the chance to develop their language and educational skills to a higher level.
