Public benefits

The direct benefits flowing from the band's purposes are musical enjoyment experienced by both the band members and the listening audience. There are also improved relationships among band members and also the band is building strong links with its local and wider community. The benefits for the band members can be shown by maintaining attendance

records. If the members weren't enjoying the music making then they would not regularly attend. The band members have also got access to playing at prestigious events/venues that wouldn't be available to them as individuals e.g. Belfast Tattoo, Glasgow Tattoo, St Anne's Cathedral. Similarly the enjoyment experienced by the public will be acquired through verbal feedback from them after concerts and also by their attendance at events run by the band. The number of 'repeat' engagements (year after year) is also testament to the levels of satisfaction enjoyed by the organisations running the events. There is no harm arising from the band's purposes. The charity's beneficiaries are the members of the band who benefit from music making, skill development, social interaction and engagement with the local and wider community. The other beneficiaries are the listening audience who attend band engagements in the local Fivemiletown area, Mid-Ulster Council area and also further afield in N.Ireland, Rep of Ireland and GB. There is no private benefit flowing from the band's purposes.

What your organisation does

Murley Silver Band carries out its purpose by playing concerts, contests, church services and taking part in festival and cultural parades primarily around Co Tyrone and Co Fermanagh but also further afield in N. Ireland. We have also played engagements in Rep of Ireland and GB in the past. Representing N.I. in the European Brass Band Championships

in 2008,2009 and 2016 were major highlights in our history. We provide social intercourse for players of all ages through: 'Bob Hall School of Music' small group tuition for beginners primarily for children on weekly basis ( one hour rehearsal for total of approx. 10 children aged around 10 years); intermediate level playing through our 'Concert Band' to develop and nurture young people's enjoyment of music and their playing ability on a weekly basis (one hour rehearsal for approx. 15 people of all ages but mostly children aged 10 to 18 years) and finally playing in the senior band 'Murley Silver Band' which meets twice weekly coming up to competitions ( minimum duration of two hours per rehearsal for approx. 30 players of all ages). We rehearse in our band room in Fivemiletown, Co Tyrone and are looking forward to our centenary celebrations in 2024.Players experience the pleasure of playing brass music together and also the associated social interactions that occur.
