The direct benefits which flow from purpose are the development of greater understanding and co-operation between political, cultural and religious communities in Northern Ireland. These benefits are demonstrated through annual reports which are published, periodic reviews and event evaluation sheets. There is no evidence of harm anticipated from

this purpose. The beneficiaries are peoples of Northern Ireland A private benefit flowing from this purpose is the proportionate payment of fees to trustees of the Community Relations Council. The payments were recommended by the then Department of Finance and Personnel, and the members of the NICRC voted (with prior ‘section 96’ consent from the Charity Commission for NI) to amend its articles and introduce the payments in line with the recommendations

Charitable purposes

The advancement of education and of other charitable purposes beneficial to the community in Northern Ireland (“the area of benefit”) and in particular, but not so as to limit the generality of the foregoing, the advancement of education in and the understanding of the different cultural traditions of the peoples of the area of benefit and the improvement of community relations in the area of benefit.
