Public benefits

Promote urban and rural regeneration for the public benefit in the Newry, Mourne and Down District Council area and elsewhere,by all or any of the following means:1 creation of training and employment opportunities for the unemployed and underemployed by the provision of workspace,buildings and/or land for use on favourable terms; the direct

benefits which flow from this purpose include the provision of various sizes of business incubation workspace, offices and units for use on favourable terms,on an easy in easy out basis.2.provision of technical assistance or business advice or consultancy in order to provide training and employment opportunities for unemployed or underemployed people in cases of financial or other charitable need through help:(i)in setting up their own business, or(ii)to existing businesses or(iii) to others considering establishing a business; The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include the transition of individuals into self-employment through a process of pre start and start up support mechanisms, providing the individuals with all of the above benefits.3.advancement of education, training or retraining for the public benefit,particularly among those who are unemployed and underemployed. The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include the transition of individuals from economic inactivity into self-employment or employment and gaining a recognised qualification.4. Advance education for the public benefit by raising awareness and increasing knowledge of the importance of economic enterprise, entrepreneurship and enterprise sustainability.The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include the development of employment capacity enabling clients into self-employment or employment.5.The advancement of community development in the area of benefit and in particular the promotion of the community and voluntary sector for the benefit of the public by supporting and working in partnership with community and voluntary groups. 1.These benefits can be demonstrated by the transition of individuals into self-employment by providing business incubation workspace ranging from offices,manufacturing and retail. 2.These benefits can be demonstrated in the current 2019/2020 year by assisting 57 potential small businesses, conducting free start up workshops and information sessions.3.These benefits can be demonstrated in 2018/19 by assisting 38 individuals in Exploring Enterprise OCR Level 2 Qualification in Understanding Business Enterprise enhancing their employability status and helping to create new businesses.4.These benefits can be demonstrated by Exploring Enterprise participant numbers and Go For It participant numbers. 5.These benefits can be evidenced in records kept by various agencies of the number of jobs and work experience opportunities created and numbers of those who have successfully completed training courses. There is no harm flowing from this purpose. The public and beneficiary benefit statement and activities stated above do not benefit any unintended beneficiaries, nor is there any identifiable or intend harm flowing from any of the purposes. The beneficiaries are residents and businesses located within Newry Mourne & Down Council area, for the purpose of urban regeneration to set up and operate their own business. We currently assist 38 small businesses with the provision of business incubation workspace ranging from office, manufacturing and retail. There is no private benefit flowing from this purpose. The public and beneficiary benefit statement and activities stated above do not benefit any unintended beneficiaries, nor is there any identifiable or intend harm flowing from any of the purposes.

What your organisation does

Down Business Centre offers a variety of industrial and office units for rent on favourable terms at the main Down Business Park, 46 Belfast Road, Downpatrick, BT30 9UP. A range of Office Services can be provided to both businesses and community and voluntary organisations and number of conference, meeting and training rooms are available for

hire. Advisory support for the unemployed, young prospective entrepreneurs and SMEs is also available. The Centre offers a range of business start-up, business growth and innovation programmes, including Business Start-up, Exploring Enterprise, Business Growth.

Charitable purposes
