In our Community Garden any potential harm arising from the use of garden or workshop tools are minimised by good practice, proper safety precautions and the normal presence of at least one accredited first aider. We also have full insurance cover for all members and visitors to the garden should anything unforeseen occur. While there is the rare possibility of an accident, we believe the benefits outweigh the potential harm. The beneficiaries of the relief of poverty are ex-prisoners and their families living in Newry City. The beneficiaries of the provision of free training and educational courses and development programmes are ex-prisoners and their families in Newry City. The beneficiaries of the advancement of health are ex-prisoners and their families in Newry City. The beneficiaries of the provision of programmes, events and activities in our premises at Barcroft Community Garden and Men’s Shed is anyone in the Newry City area without distinction of age, gender, sexuality, nationality, ethnic origin, political or religious opinion who wants to take part in Garden or Men’s Shed activities. The private benefits can be accrued by trustees arising from the relief of poverty, the provision of training and educational courses, the advancement of health and the provision of programmes, events and activities in our Community Garden and Men’s Shed are experience of managing an organisation, enhanced skills and increased knowledge and organisational abilities.These benefits are necessary and incidental to ensure the organisation can achieve its purposes.

Charitable purposes

The Association is established to: Relieve poverty among ex-prisoners and their families (our principle beneficiary target group) by providing free welfare rights advice and assistance in Newry City (hereinafter called the 'area of benefit'). Advance education through the provision of free training and educational courses and development programmes for ex-prisoners and their families in the 'area of benefit'. Improve quality of health of the republican ex-prisoner community and their families by providing or assist in providing counselling and emotional support services and the provision of free programmes, events and activities.
