The direct benefits for teachers which flow from supporting personal creative development for those who are involved in art and design education are:- - the enhancement and updating of skills; - the stimulus, motivation and recharging of batteries; - networking opportunities for teachers to learn from each other and access peer support; - the
facility to access and communicate examples of good classroom practice; - this approach has the potential to improve practise and raise standards within the classroom and to inform career choices. These benefits will be demonstrated through:- - feedback from participants on the quality and relevance of events in on-going written and verbal evaluations; - data that evidences numbers attending events and their geographical spread; - requests received from teachers are acted on and where relevant, implemented to meet user needs. It is likely there will be no harm flowing from our purposes. The beneficiaries of the charity are:- - teachers who apply art and design teaching in the classroom - retired teachers and those currently working who are advancing their personal creativity - student teachers who are supported through links to the association - school age students who are rewarded through the bursary scheme - institutions and organisations that partner with our association including: - Ulster Museum, School of Art UU, School of Architecture QUB, FE McWilliam Gallery The private benefits flowing from the purposes are: - - the acknowledgement of professional artists whose workshops or lectures are published in the termly newsletter. This acknowledgement is necessary in the communication of specialist expertise to the wider teaching community and may provide the facility to extend good classroom practice. - school children, their schools and art and design department benefit from the acknowledgement of their success. - institutions and organisations benefit from partnerships that facilitate outreach work. The organisation carries out its purpose by:- - Providing a minimum of five courses and workshops per annum for teachers that are led by professional practitioners with accredited/professional expertise in order to advance teaching skills and personal creativity in the visual arts - Widening participants knowledge through cultural visits, lectures
and talks from those with recognised expertise in the field of art and design (e.g. art historians, third level teachers, exhibiting artists, gallery and museum curators etc.). - Developing partnerships and making links that provide access to expertise and specialist facilities, for example; in third level education, with museums and galleries and other like minded bodies. - Increasing communication between teachers through; meetings, workshops, social media and a newspaper publication which is produced three times a year. - Organising an annual Art and Design Teachers' Exhibition that encourages teachers, both current and retired, to continue their individual creative practice for showcasing to the wider public. - Rewarding student excellence through annual nurseries aimed at GCSE and GCE students. This is carried out in conjunction with the CCEA True Colours exhibition. - Extending the support network of the AADE by making links with student teacher training courses and having student representation on the committee.
