Public benefits
The relief of poverty on the continent of Africa and throughout the world: The direct benefits flowing from this purpose include the relief of poverty through provision of care to children in impoverished areas of the world. The provision of accommodation, clothing, food and education to children through supportive care programmes and in
particular the pre school nursery in Kerege, Tanzania provides the children with a better standard of life. We address and combat the negative impacts of malnutrition, sickness and disasters such as flooding through our relief programmes. The children are provided with greatly enhanced opportunities through education and training which assists them to secure employment and earn a wage, which in turn can help them escape the cycle of poverty and have a positive future. The relief of those in need by reason of youth, age, ill health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage on the continent of Africa and throughout the world: The direct benefits flowing from this purpose include the positive outcomes which flow from the care provided to vulnerable children. This provides them with a positive upbringing which they might not have otherwise had due to their financial hardship, vulnerability or illness. HIV awareness is provided which aims to combat the spread of this virus and assistance is provided to relieve children from malnutrition and other illness. The education of the general public in Northern Ireland regarding poverty and the needs of the people on the continent of Africa: The direct benefits flowing from this purpose include the education of individuals (and particularly children) in Northern Ireland about the needs of those who are less fortunate. This leads to a greater cultural understanding and awareness of individuals in Northern Ireland and provides information on how to help improve the lives of children in different parts of the world. Opportunities to sponsor children are provided. The direct benefits are demonstrated through regular evaluation of services and feedback from children and their families as well as the volunteers and donors. This evaluation and provision of feedback is prepared in conjunction with our partners in Tanzania. Kidz Care Tanzania has regular newsletters and updates on the orphanage and its other work which demonstrates the good work which is done. There is no harm arising from any of the purposes and all activities are undertaken by appropriately qualified and experienced individuals. The beneficiaries are those destitute children and young people who are sponsored or who go to the kids homes set up by Kidzcare Tanzania, their families and as a result wider society. There is no private benefit.
... [more] [less]What your organisation does
In 2000, Kidzcare Tanzania (our sister charity registered in Tanzania under registration number SA10914) rented a small house in one of Dar es Salaam's neediest neighbourhoods and worked with local social workers to find kids that were a) orphaned, b) had parents that were unable to support them or c) that had illnesses/disabilities that could not
be treated in their hometown. Their 6-child home soon grew to 24. In the past 18 years they have waved off kids to university, teachers college and technical school and welcomed new smiling faces with open arms. Since 2000, they have expanded their geographical and program breadth, opening 7 rainbow schools across the country to give Tanzania's brightest young minds free and accessible pre-school education. In rural areas where they have no running water, no power and maybe have never seen a mazungu (foreigner), the children do not have access to pre 1st grade education. So when a child starts school they already start behind. Katunza Watoto (which is "caring for children" or "kids care" in Swahili) works to support and help expand the programs to relieve the poverty of children in Tanzania (and elsewhere on the continent of Africa and throughout the world) by working in Northern Ireland to raise funds for these programmes and to educate the public in Northern Ireland about the needs of children and in particular those in Tanzania and other parts of East Africa. Funds are raised through donations, corporate sponsorship and by non-taxable trading in relation to the refurbishment and sale of donated books, records, furniture, collectables and other goods. Our vision is for every child in Tanzania to reach their full potential through access to education. We aim to expand our preschool and primary schools across Tanzania to give the bright young minds a place to grow and thrive.
