Public benefits
R.C.R.G. provide a range of benefits that include: 1. The empowerment of residents to improve their local area and environment. 2. Access to local education, employment opportunities and skills based training 3. Improved health and well-being for all residents. 4. Environmental opportunities through our community gardens, Activity Park, hill
walking, orienteering and estate allotments. 5. One of our long term agreements is the preservation and protection and having access to nearly 400 acres of land on Carnmoney Hill for recreation purposes through our partners The Woodland Trust and the Belfast Hills Partnership. 6. Access to local education, employment opportunities and skills based training. 7. Providing opportunities through volunteering for the young, the elderly and those with disabilities that will end social exclusion and build community confidence. 8. The provision of a range of activities such as health and fitness programmes, dance, drama, cultural, educational, leisure, men’s and women’s groups, crèche, dementia care and support, healthy eating, summer schemes, festivals, all with a weekly footfall of over 1,400 people. 9. Income generation through room and hall hire which in turn supports financial sustainability. 10. Working in partnership with other agencies to improve and deliver good community relations. 11. Deliver two new 3 year youth projects in the area by providing a Youth Management Programme which is designed, planned for and delivered through a Youth Forum supported through the Youth Empowerment Programme sponsored by the Community Fund. All of the above are being delivered by a volunteer Board of Directors, three paid staff and over twenty willing volunteers who are passionate about their community but guided by the most up to date Policies and Procedures, Health and Safety, Good Governance, Accountability, Good Relations and Partnership working. We intend to make our mark in the field of Community Development and Regeneration, in this the almost forgotten end of the North Belfast Westminster Constituency and the Cloughfern Ward of Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council. We are in the process of creating a new 3 year strategic plan as the last one has achieved all the targets and goals that were set in 2016. Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council have agreed a new £715,000 extension to our existing building including a new car park beginning in January 2020, which will include two main halls, one for Youth provision and the other for birthday parties, dance studio and much needed storage to meet demands. The benefit will be evidenced by evaluations of programs offered, feedback from users of the centre, local council through performance reviews and funders feedback. As the projects are participant led and our work is guided by them and our users we cannot at this time identify any harm they would be caused to residents improving their living conditions and assisting their own personal development. The only private benefit to trustees will be skills enhancement and experience gained through participation in activities.
