Public benefits

The direct benefits flowing from the Naiscoil's purposes include the education and development of pre-school children in age appropriate, curriculum based, literacy, numeracy, language and social skills through the use of play and communicated via the medium of the Irish language. Additional educational benefits which flow from second language and

immersion provision for preschool children include; the ability to communicate with greater numbers of people which can expand educational, professional, and social opportunities; cognitive advantages, such as increased problem-solving skills and creativity. Bilingual children also develop an interest in and curiosity about different cultures and ideas when they have a foundation in other languages. This makes them more comfortable growing up in an increasingly global society, where languages and cultures intersect every day. These benefits are demonstrated through feedback from parents/guardians, the annual increase in the number of children attending the Naiscoil and through inspection from our supervisory bodies;the Early Years team of the Southern Health and Social Care Trust, and the Education and Training Inspectorate of the Department of Education NI. The advantages of bilingual education is widely documented and evidenced through numerous research studies and literature. There is no harm arising from our purposes. The beneficiaries are primarily the children and their parents/guardians who attend the Naiscoil and live in the area of Portadown. The creation of employment and training in Naiscoil na Banna will privately benefit those employed and trained but this is necessary in order to carry out the Naiscoil's purposes.

What your organisation does

Activities provided include; block play, small world, construction, table top activities including games and small construction, imaginary play, role play including home, hospital etc, sand and water play, paint and dough, physical indoor and outdoor physical play, story/song and rhyme time, quiet area or children to relax and enjoy books, cooking experiences and science and technology exploration. The Naiscoil encourages parents/guardians to understand and provide for the needs of their children by; further developing the growth of the Irish-medium sector, supporting the role of Irish Medium Education by developing an Irish speaking community and Irish speaking families in Portadown and surrounding areas; ensuring that the Naiscoil is adequately resourced to meet the demands of those interested in Irish Medium Education in its surrounding area; assisting parents and carers of Irish Medium Education children to support their children’s learning availing of the Naiscoil as a mechanism to develop the role of the Irish Medium Education as a focus for learning in the community and as a focus of making the community of the area aware of the many advantages of Irish Medium Education.
