Public benefits

(i)Advancing community development by the provision of facilities, training and support for local businesses. (ii) Increasing employment and self-employment opportunities throughout the area with provision of facilities for inhabitants living in economically or socially deprived areas and consequently leading to a reduction in poverty, leading to

a better quality of life and improvement in health and well-being; (iii) Enhanced knowledge about setting up and running a small business and social enterprise resulting in increased levels of self-employment and better prospects of sustainable development; (iv) Improving appearance and aesthetics of the town; (v) Financial support to local charities, schools, sports group and community groups throughout the area, helping to improve the local area, enhancing the quality of life and well-being of the residents of the area. Benefits for the community include the support for local businesses, which helps the, set up, start and grow their business. Employment opportunities and self-employment opportunities are increased when facilities become available for businesses to set up and grow, before moving on into bigger more bespoke premises after they have out grown current facilities. During this period there is increased employment and increased economic activity in the local area; Aesthetics in the town are improve by the funding of painting and signage as well as planting of trees, which give the town a better look and feel and promotes prosperity. Financial donations are given to local groups to help them to promote their activities and increase their offerings. There is no harm arising from these purposes. General public, local businesses, community groups in the town of Maghera and its natural hinterland. Some private benefit is obtained by the owners of small businesses who rent units on favourable terms, but this is ancillary and necessary to achieving this charitable purpose.

What your organisation does

At present Maghera Development association offers a range of industrial units to a diverse range of businesses for rent at a favourable rates, with flexible lease terms. The site is based in Maghera and the development association aims to promote the establishment and growth of new and established business by providing these facilities. The group

are also involved in promoting prosperity throughout the area, with improvements to town aesthetics, such as updating signage, planting of trees, painting and general maintenance of the area as required. The group are also continuing to promote and request for continued support for the area from local council. The group has a number of volunteers available to offer expert advice as and when required, with the aim of providing assistance for any new or established business. Maghera Development Association continues to provide financial donations to a wide range of entities, such as local charities, schools, sports clubs and community groups.

Charitable purposes

The Charity's objects ("Objects") are specifically restricted to the following: (1) The promotion for the public benefit of urban regeneration in areas of social and economic deprivation (and in particular the mid-ulster council area ("the area")) by all or any of the following means: (a) the relief of poverty in such ways as may be thought fit; (b) the relief of unemployment in such ways as may be thought fit, including assistance to find employment; (c) the provision of financial assistance, technical assistance, or business advice or consultancy in order to provide training and employment opportunities for unemployed people in cases of financial or other charitable need through help: a. in setting up their own business, or b. to existing businesses; (d) the creation of training and employment opportunities by the provision of workspace, buildings or land for use on favourable terms; (e) the maintenance, improvement or provision of public amenities; (f) the protection or conservation of the environment; and (g) such other means as may from time to time be determined subject to the prior consent of the Northern Ireland Charity Commission.
