Public benefits
The direct benefit which flows from this purpose is that children under statutory school age will have the opportunity to avail of pre-school education (in accordance CCEA 2018 Curricular Guidance for Pre-school Education) within the Kilkeel area. Young children will be able to experience a broad range of play activities which support and enhance
their learning and development, and health and wellbeing. As part of this, children will be able to benefit from playing with and alongside other children in a supportive and inclusive environment where they can learn social skills and develop empathy for others. A further direct benefit flowing from this purpose is that parents and carers will have opportunities to grow in knowledge and understanding of learning and development in early childhood and relate this to their own children and families. In turn, this helps raise awareness within the wider community of the importance of early childhood. Supporting the values and principles of ‘Early Years-the organisation for young children’ directly benefits children and their families as this establishes a group ethos which values partnership with parents and other professional agencies with the aim of supporting early childhood and the happiness and wellbeing of children. The benefits can be identified through staff observations of the children's interest in the play activities and the progress they make over the year. This is shared with parents in meetings and parents also give feedback on their children's experience of the playgroup throughout the year. Inspection and evaluation from Social Services and the Education and Training Inspectorate and visits from our Early Years advisor are also reflective of the benefits of the organisation's activities. Links with local primary schools are also indicative of the benefits of the playgroup particularly in relation to transition to primary school. There is no harm arising from any of the purposes. The charities beneficiaries are preschool children 0-5 and their parents. There is no private benefit flowing from these purposes.
... [more] [less]What your organisation does
The organisation provides playgroup activities for up to 20 preschool children (3-4 years old). Playgroup activities are provided Monday-Friday 09:00-12:00 throughout term time. We employ 3 members of staff who plan and organise the playgroup activities and who care for the needs of the children attending the playgroup. The playgroup activities are
run in accordance with CCEA Preschool Curricular Guidance and in accordance with Health and Social Services guidance. This work involves partnership with parents and partnership with other professionals involved in health and education. Playgroup staff liaise with local schools to support the transition of children to primary school. We have meetings and information sessions for parents where they can learn about child development in the early years and government initiatives such as 'The Big Bedtime Read'. We also avail of the services of an Early Years Advisor as part of keeping up to date with developments and initiatives in the early year's sector.
