Public benefits
The direct benefits which flow from our purposes are providing people who live in rural areas with the opportunity to meet and enjoy social interaction thereby helping to reduce social isolation. This flows from events and meetings organised and held for the local people. Participants at these events get an opportunity to learn new skills while at
the same time contributing to their local community and environment. The benefits can be evidenced through records kept by the Association, evaluations of its work and its impact, the findings of a community survey, feedback from participants and by the level of uptake of our activities. No known harm has been caused by the Associations purposes or its activities which has been evidenced through feedback from participants. The beneficiaries are the inhabitants of Drumbo and the surrounding area of all ages. A private benefit to Trustees may arise from undertaking and participating in the organisation of events and activities as they may gain skills and experiences which are transferable to other settings. These benefits are incidental and are necessary to ensure that our beneficiaries have an improved quality of life.

Drumbo and District Community Association undertakes a wide range of activities including our bi-annual summer fete and Christmas Tree lights turn-on events which are attended by people of all ages. The 2-3 mini-bus outings each year are aimed at the area's older people and combine educational locations and social networking both in the mini buses
(provided by the Council) and over refreshment breaks etc. We run two fund-raising charity concerts each year, attended by over 200 people and also occasional afternoon teas. We also hold a monthly drop-in centre focused on friendship and mutual support of attendees and have recently launched a Men's Shed aimed at supporting older men's mental health and social inclusion. We have also been instrumental in obtaining a grant from the Lagan Rural Partnership to complete a village regeneration project which included removing overhead wiring, providing street furniture, new landscape architecture and complete resurfacing of the village. This was done in association with Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council.
