Public benefits

PURPOSE 1: The public benefits from our teaching and guidance, demonstrates how Christianity can empower and enable them as individuals, and how their commitment to this faith, has a beneficial impact on their families and wider society of the town of Portadown. Having adopted our belief system, they are then able to become members or be affiliated

with Open Arms Church, providing them with a sense of belonging to a faith-based community and to receive ongoing teaching and fellowship within our local congregation. Such benefits of being taught about the Christian faith, extends to all ages, and specific meetings are held weekly, for children of Primary School age. PURPOSE 2: The public benefits from provision of companionship and encouragement, along with both spiritual and practical help for people and families facing difficulties or illness. They also benefit from emotional and spiritual support. The public benefits from the care provided in times of need. PURPOSE 3: The public benefit from having access to education and expertise in the Christian faith, from attending such meetings. They also benefit from increased knowledge of that faith and how to apply Christian principles to their own particular lifestyle, and these benefits extend to society as a whole. PURPOSE 4: The public benefit is that people are encouraged and assisted to celebrate, specific Christian holidays along with the meaning of such and helped to understand their significance. This increase in knowledge benefits the whole of society, by the spread of Christian values among the public. Open Arms Church provides education in the Christian faith to any person who avails of its services, to all age groups and genders. Guidance and instruction are offered to anyone seeking clarification of the Christian faith, and how to live according to its values. PURPOSE 1: Benefits can be demonstrated by increasing numbers of people attending, our services and meetings, increased donations and from the growing proportion joining membership of our Church. PURPOSE 2: These benefits can be demonstrated by the numbers of people who are supported by the provision of such services, care and encouragement. They can also be demonstrated by correspondence received in response . PURPOSE 3: These benefits can be demonstrated by the increasing numbers year on year of people attending these meetings. Also by increasing involvement by members in the structures and meetings of our church. The fact that members of the public return, having been taught on one particular topic come back for further explanation of new topics. PURPOSE 4: The benefits of this purpose can be demonstrated by positive responses and encouragement from members of the public. The fact that some then engage with our church on an ongoing basis as a consequence, is also demonstrative. We believe that there is no harm as a result of our purposes. Our charity’s beneficiaries are the members and attendees of our church, along with their families and friends. The public of the wider community, in the vicinity of our church building and the public in the town of Portadown and the surrounding area, are also beneficiaries. PURPOSE 1: The only private benefit flowing from this purpose is the payment to the Pastor, for his ministerial services to the church. He holds the main spiritual vision for the church and his services are vital to enabling this purpose to be successfully and effectively delivered. We considered this to be incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to those our organisation serves. PURPOSE 2, 3, 4: There is no private benefit flowing from our other purposes.

What your organisation does

PURPOSE 1: Open Arms Church holds weekly Worship Services and Meetings in the church, in order to increase knowledge about the Christian Faith with the intention of persuading members of the public to adopt our belief system and to support those who have already. An audio recording of our Sunday Worship services is posted on our Website and is

publicly accessed by people all around the world. A weekly meeting is also held specifically for children of Primary School age, during the time of the Sunday worship service. On a monthly basis we hold meetings specifically for men and ladies, separately, for the purposes of fellowship, teaching, worship and prayer. These are all open to the public. PURPOSE 2: Our Pastor, assisted by other leaders and volunteers of Open Arms Church, provide pastoral and practical care and is regularly involved in visitation to people in their own homes, in hospital and nursing homes. This provides companionship and encouragement, both spiritual and practical help for people and families facing difficulties or illness. Such care extends to any church members and members of the public in the area surrounding our church who request such assistance. PURPOSE 3: In addition to our weekly worship services, we organise and hold meetings, specifically for the study of the Bible and to increase peoples’ knowledge and understanding of the scriptures. These meetings are open to the public and are advertised by leaflet and on the Church website. Such meetings are designed to educate people regarding our Christian faith, lifestyle and morals. PURPOSE 4: At specific times of the year we contact members of the public who are resident in the area where our church is situated, going from door to door. We also are present in public spaces, such as a shopping centre close to our church building. We provide literature explaining our faith, usually accompanied by small gifts, freely given and appropriate for any given season to the public.
