Public benefits

The direct benefits flowing from our organisation's purpose of "the advancement of citizenship and community development" include increasing inter-generational understanding, reducing social isolation, improving the quality of life and increasing community involvement of the residents of the West Winds Estate, Newtownards. The benefits identified

above are demonstrated by feedback from residents in the Estate and evaluation forms completed by programme participants. There is no harm arising from any of the purposes. The charity's beneficiaries are the residents of the West Winds Estate, Newtownards. The only private benefit flowing from our purpose in the knowledge gained from training such as Good Governance and first aid training. This is incidental and necessary as it allows us to work in a more effective and efficient manner.

What your organisation does

The West Winds Development Association carries out it purpose by running a Youth Club, a young people's drop-in centre, inter-generational projects and a Women's Group where various age groups come together to meet and interact in a social setting. It also runs events during the year such as a Senior's Christmas Lunch, Women's Pamper day and family

fun days. There is also an Environmental group that runs an allotment, puts up hanging baskets at the shop complex and gives out planters to residents in the Estate.

Charitable purposes

The Association is established to: relieve poverty, sickness and the aged and to promote the benefit of the inhabitants of West Winds and its environs in Newtownards (hereinafter described as the area of benefit ) without distinction of age, sex, race, political, religious or other opinion, by associating the statutory authorities, voluntary organisations and inhabitants in a common effort to advance education, and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation or other leisure-time occupation, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants. To establish or to secure the establishment of a Community Centre (hereinafter called the Centre ) and to maintain and manage or to co-operate with any local statutory authority in the maintenance and management of such a Centre for activities promoted by the Association and its constituent bodies in furtherance of the above objects.
